WORDS THE FANS  REALLY WANTED TO HEAR

There is no better way to celebrate 8th domestic league cup in 11 years than with the family! 💙❤

Luis Suarez has revealed that Barcelona’s players were surprised by Lionel Messi’s pre-season announcement that winning the Champions League would be the club’s priority this season.

The newly-crowned Spanish champions welcome Liverpool to the Camp Nou for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday with the Catalan giants aiming to win their first European title since 2015.

Barcelona have struggled in the competition since then and had failed to get past the quarter-final stage in the previous three seasons while domestic rivals Real Madrid lifted the trophy.

Following last season’s shock exit to Serie A side Roma, Ernesto Valverde’s side ended that run this year as they booked a place in the last four with a convincing 4-0 aggregate win over Manchester United .

They will now face Suarez’s old team for a place in the final on June 1 as they look to fulfil the vow captain Messi made to the club’s fans at the start of the season.

“Although last year we won La Liga and the Copa del Rey, we all got stung in the Champions League,” Messi said before the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Boca Juniors in August.

“We promise that we will do everything possible so that this beautiful cup returns to the Camp Nou again.”

Despite being known as one of Messi’s best friends, Suarez has admitted that he and many of his team-mates were surprised by the declaration.
